The Dr. will also examine your eyes for common eye diseases, assess how your eyes work together as a team and evaluate your eyes as an indicator for your overall health.

Experiencing Vision Problems? It's Time to Schedule an Eye Exam

When you’re struggling with vision problems, it’s important to schedule an eye exam. An experienced optometrist will be able to determine the cause of your vision issues and find a way to fix them. Whether it’s by treating an eye disease or updating an old prescription, our optometrists are here to help. It’s important to know the signs of an eye issue, in order to prevent it from worsening. Check out the following section to gain a better understanding of some of the common eye problems people struggle with.

Cataracts

As we age, cataracts can develop as a result of an injury, UV exposure, or protein deterioration. They appear as a cloudy-looking white lens in the eye. People with cataracts may experience foggy vision, difficulty seeing at night, seeing halos around lights, fading colors, and sensitivity to light or glares

Glaucoma

This is another eye disease that affects people over the age of sixty. Fluid builds up in the front part of the eye and damages the optic nerve. This can cause people to experience a loss in their side vision, see halos around lights, tunnel vision, and eye pain or redness.

Macular Degeneration

Similar to glaucoma and cataracts, macular degeneration affects older people. As we age, the macula (the central part of the retina) wears down. This causes blind spots in central vision, making it hard for people to read, drive, watch television, and recognize faces. This disease progresses quickly but some of the common signs are seeing straight lines that seem bent, difficulty seeing fine lines, and dark or blurry areas in the central vision.

Diabetic Retinopathy

This is eye problem is common in people with diabetes. High blood sugar levels damage the retina, which can cause it to detach. This eventually leads to vision loss. People with retinopathy tend to experience blurry vision, seeing colors that seem washed out, vision loss, vision that changes from blurry to clear, and dark or spotty areas in their vision.

Dry Eye

Dry eye is one of the most common eye problems that is caused by a lack of tears. Without tears or the right kind of tears, the eye can become swollen and painful. In some cases, chronic dry eye can make it uncomfortable to read a book or look at a screen. Some of the most common symptoms of dry eye are red eyes, sensitivity to light, blurry vision, feeling like there’s something in the eye, and burning or itchy eyes.
